Online communication is very comfortable for many people
This is especially true for younger adults or those who use technology often. More people are using email, webinars and text messaging to communicate, and it can seem more comfortable or easier than talking to someone in person, especially when revealing personal or private information.
It can provide access to those who can’t get to an office
In some rural communities, the nearest therapist office may be an hour or two drive away. Some people with chronic illnesses or disabilities may not be able to drive or easily able to leave their home. Other times a therapist with a specific specialty or cultural competency is at a significant distance. In these situations, Web- or telephone-based therapy may be their only option for help. Currently all Sovereignty Counseling Services clients can utilize video sessions in order to provide peace of mind in their social distancing precautions.
Some Considerations for online sessions
When considering if online therapy sessions and seeking EMDR the therapist will determine if all or part of the phases can be completed remotely on a case by case basis. This is in your best interest to insure the bilateral stimulation during reprocessing is most effective for you.
I love working with children and preteens, however online sessions can be difficult and less effective. Online sessions will be utilized on a case by case basis.
In person sessions may be necessary periodically, initially or for specific phases of EMDR. For more information please contact us to schedule a free 30 minute consultation.
